Maddock finishes 2nd at Cando Golf Meet

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

On Tuesday, April 29th, the Maddock Varsity Boys’ Golf Team traveled up to Cando for a day off from school. It was a good day, but really windy, there were gusts up to 40 mph and it didn’t let up any. There were six teams in all that showed up. I’d name them if I knew them, but I don’t. The meet lasted the entire day, we arrived in Cando around 9 a.m. and left at about 4 p.m. At the meet itself, the Maddock team did exceptionally well. Levi Slater placed third in the overall meet out of one billion individual golfers. After the meet, the team stopped at Dairy Queen where Ethan cut in line and got out of there in record time, but most of the team, instead of going to DQ, went to Cenex across the street and loaded up on junk food and pop. I purchased a water and a Canadian Bacon pizza. It was good. When we arrived back at Maddock Public School, everyone got in their cars and went home. The End…

Maddock goes to Fesseden

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

The Maddock High School, grades 7-12, were invited to the Fesseden School to listen to a speaker. When I first heard about this, I thought it was just going to be another boring lecture to sit through, but it was actually very good. It was about a girl that got killed in a school shooting nine years ago. The whole thing sent out a very good message that sometimes people nowadays forget-treat others the way you want to be treated. I think everyone that went enjoyed it. It was sad, but it did have a good message.

Speaker in Fessenden

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

indexbottom_041.gifOn Tuesday, Maddock students in grades 7-12 went to Fessenden to listen to speakers at the Fesseneden school. No one really knew what the presentation was about so when we got there we found out that it was about a girl that was killed in the Columbine shootings and about making the right life choices. One speaker was the girl’s little brother. The speakers talked about not falling into drugs and alcohol and also about being kind to others. The students enjoyed the presentation very much and I’m sure everyone learned something that day.

AWANA Finishes for the Year

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Bethany AWANA – a Bible cenetered program where children and youth can learn about God and His Word, meet new friends, and participate in exciting games and challenging contests — ended this year with the annual Awards Night, Sunday evening,   April 27, with parents and friends joining the AWANA members from all over Benson County. Captian Paul Backstrom led the service. The students led in the usual Flags Opening cerimony and sang several songs.  Here you see the “Clubers” (3rd through 6th graders) singing.  Besides the awards given out there were a couple of “highlights”: a contest of lining up all the Books of the Bible (in order) with two adult teams and two AWANA teams.  The adults did beat, but it was close!! There was also an “Alumni Quartette” (all four awanaalumni408-800.jpgawanaclubbers08-800.jpgmembers having gone through all the levels at Bethany AWANA  in years past), who sang for us.  Pictured here is the quartette: Ben Backstrom, Paul Rice, Levi Slater and Andy Backstrom. The evening concluded with an Ice Cream Social enjoyed by all. Look for AWANA starting again in the Fall.

Update on Dave Scott

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

We recently renewed contact with Dave Scott. He and Maryann are on an extended visit to family and friends in CA and are getting settled into an apartment there. Dave was very instrumental in getting the Horizons program going in Maddock and I for one recognize his key position in setting it up. The two pictures are of Dave, Maryann and dvmalou-800.jpgLdavemaryann-800.jpg  Louise Olson at one of the early Study Circles and the second is of Dave and Maryann at the initial blogging training that people from Maddock participated in at Harvey. They plan to be back in Maddock in time for the All-School Reunion.Their email address is: <lanscotservices@verizon.net> if anyone wishes to add words of appreciation.

Horizons Information and Celebration Dinner

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

hordin0408-800.jpghordin08emt-800.jpgHorizons of Maddock hosted an informational and Celebration Dinner at the Multi-Purpose Buiding at noon on April 27. This dinner was a cooperative effort of Horizons and various organizations and individuals who are making progress towards keeping Maddock alive and improving its chances of doing so. Two new initiatives were brought to the public’s attention with a Q & A time for further information. First, the proposed Mill Levi for the county Ambulance fund was explained in detail by Marne Stadum. Second, the newly appointed Maddock Housing Board was announced and chairman Larry Summers gave a few of the initial steps that they are considering. We celebrated together with a report of the After School Activities Program given by Kathy Daeley, an update on the Community Development Director by Lu Mathison, and recognition of others who are making significant contributions to the well-being of Maddock. Thanks to Sharon & Mark, Yvonne and others from Maddock Cafe and Lanes, a wonderful meal of ham, meatballs, mashed potatoes, corn and cole slaw was enjoyed by many and missed by others.
