Last Regular Season Game

Friday, February 1st, 2008

The Girls Basketball Team is coming up on their last regular season game before districts on Friday February 1. They will be playing the New Rockford Rockets at 7:30 p.m. in New Rockford. This will be the senior’s last regular season game of their high school careers. After this game the District Tournaments will soon start. The game will decide where they are seeded for the District Tournaments. If they win the game they will be seeded 3rd place, but if they lose the game they will be ranked either 4th or 5th.

The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday January 29th, but because of bad weather it had to be rescheduled. The New Rockford boys have three games that night in New Rockford starting at 3:30. The girls will be playing after the boys games.

The Multi-Purpose Building

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Ever since I moved here in 1994, there has been a lot of changes and additions in Maddock, but the most recent one is the contsruction on the new multi-purpose building. The building was built for 4-H achievment days because Minnewauken could no longer host it in Minnewauken. The building was constucted relatively quickly and is used for many purposes. They have recently painted the gym floor so it looks nice and is clean. The building includes a gymnasium, bathrooms, a kitchen, a weight room, and an arena for 4-H days.  It can also be used for school activites such as basketball, volleyball, track, the academic challenge, FFA Barnyard, and prom. The community has used it to hold banquets, dances, farm shows, bull-a-ramas, horse and cattle sales, and as a riding arena.

Overall, the building has added a lot to the Maddock community. It has given people a place to go to do the things they enjoy.

The Maddock Annual Staff

Friday, February 1st, 2008

As editor of the annual staff I would like to announce that we have finally gotten four pages done for the yearbook. Doing pages for the yearbook is not hard work but it takes time to do things right, so now I know what Mrs. Kallenbach has had to do for all of these years. This year Courtney Foss, Trina Midstokke, Alisha Knutson, Jessie Schwanke, and Taylor Arne are involved in the annual staff this year because of the electronic communications class. Chris Ellingson and I are co-editors of the annual staff this year and hope to do our best.

I would like to inform anyone who wants to take charge of doing a page they may do so whenever they feel they want to do one. If you need help with doing a page you can contact Chris or myself at anytime or even contact Mrs. Kallenbach. Every page that gets done, the faster the yearbook will be finished. This year should be an exciting year for the yearbook. I will not let out any secrets on it so it will be a surprise. I hope everyone has fun doing a yearbook page and before you know it it will be all done.

Burrr!! It’s been cold in Maddock!

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Monday afternoon a big storm hit much of North Dakota, including Maddock. It got so bad where you couldn’t see three feet infront of you! The boys basketball team had a game in Fesseden and ended up stranded there! They got kicked out of the Fesseden school but fortunately Mrs. Hovland welcomed them into her home, including some of the players families.

The girls also had a home game and they had to end it during the third quarter due to the weather. Needless to say the next day school was called off (Yay!) It was about thirty below and I think it may have been colder in some areas. It was definately not a nice time to be outside!

District 7 Rep. Arlo Schmidt Speaks at Maddock School

Friday, February 1st, 2008

sth70055-800.jpgOn January 31, 2007 District 7 Representative Arlo Schmidt came to the Maddock School to speak during “Breaking Ranks.” Mr. Schmidt talked about legislation and the primary election in North Dakota, which is coming up on Tuesday, February 5th. The students enjoyed have Mr. Schmidt speak, and also enjoyed the short movie presentation he showed, which was about getting your voice heard and how you can do so.

Remember: The Democratic Party will be holding a primary in Maddock on February 5th at the Community Center from 1 pm to 8 pm. It will be an informal setting and you will also be able to have a cup of coffee!
